IND vs AFG T20Is likely to be shifted to make room for pending Bangladesh series: Check new dates

IND vs AFG T20Is could be shifted to make room for the pending Bangladesh series, with new dates likely to be announced soon. Read the complete news here.

India vs Afghanistan T20I series schedule update — Arun Jaitley Stadium Delhi September 2026
India vs Afghanistan T20I series schedule update — Arun Jaitley Stadium Delhi September 2026

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is in talks with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to change the dates of the upcoming three-match T20I series between Afghanistan and India. The possible change is being discussed to make room for the pending Bangladesh series.

No final decision has been made yet, but the two boards are discussing the possibility of moving the series forward by a few days. One possible date being considered is September 14, which falls on Ganesh Chaturthi.

The three-match T20I series was originally scheduled for September, with Afghanistan set to host India in a bilateral series. Interestingly, the matches will be played in New Delhi, India’s national capital, despite Afghanistan being the designated host.

ACB and BCCI discuss possible schedule tweak amid Bangladesh talks

As per the original schedule, the three T20Is are set to be played on September 13, 15 and 17 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. However, the ACB has requested that the matches be moved to September 11, 13 and 14. The proposed change could help improve crowd turnout and television viewership, especially with Ganesh Chaturthi falling on September 14.

Bhairav Shanth, co-founder of ITW Universe, which holds the rights for the series, said the ACB has made the request and discussions with the BCCI are ongoing. He added that September 14 is a strong possibility for one of the matches, while the final schedule will depend on the planning and logistics involving the DDCA, BCCI and ACB.

The BCCI has received the request to shift the matches to the revised dates, with the ACB also citing requests from its stakeholders. The Arun Jaitley Stadium will host all three games, making this a unique bilateral series as Afghanistan will officially host India despite all the matches being played in India.

BCCI approval still pending — Here's what the schedule currently looks like

The proposed changes to the Afghanistan vs India T20I schedule are still awaiting final approval. A Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) official said they were not aware of the proposed changes, while a BCCI official clarified that the final decision rests with the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB). Since Afghanistan is hosting the series but does not currently have a venue to stage international matches, the games will be played in India.

The three-match T20I series will complete India and Afghanistan’s multi-format engagements this year. In June, India hosted Afghanistan for a one-off Test and a three-match ODI series, winning all four matches. The upcoming T20Is will therefore complete the teams’ meetings across all three formats.

The T20I series will be broadcast live on Sony Sports Network channels, while FanCode will provide live streaming. The original schedule has the matches on September 13, 15 and 17 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, although the dates could change if the proposed revision receives approval.

Bangladesh tour already ruled out as Afghanistan locks the September window

India’s tour of Bangladesh could be postponed once again as Afghanistan looks set to occupy the September window. India were originally scheduled to tour Bangladesh in August 2025, but the series was later moved to September 2026. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had announced a six-match series featuring three ODIs and three T20Is in Dhaka and Chattogram.

The dates for the Bangladesh series remain uncertain, with BCB president Tamim Iqbal confirming that both boards are still discussing the schedule. Meanwhile, the Afghanistan Cricket Board has asked the BCCI to move the India-Afghanistan T20Is from September 13, 15 and 17 to September 11, 13 and 14. The proposed change is aimed at improving crowd turnout and television viewership around the festival period.

The BCCI is yet to officially approve the revised Afghanistan schedule, while the DDCA has also said it has not received confirmation of any changes. All three T20Is will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, making it a unique series as Afghanistan will host India on Indian soil. The upcoming T20Is will also complete India and Afghanistan’s recent engagements across Tests, ODIs and T20Is.
