The Rajasthan Royals (RR) got a convincing victory over the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on April 7 in Guwahati. It was a dominating performance by the RR batters as they put up 150 runs in 11 overs. MI could only score 123 runs and lost the match by 27 runs. Unlike RR's opening pair, MI's openers failed to perform, which became the reason behind their defeat.

The hosts' opener, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, was quite impressive in today's game, scoring 39 off 14 deliveries. This short cameo will surely be remembered in the upcoming days as he wreaked havoc on the MI bowlers. Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews praised the young prodigy for his performance in the match against the 5-time IPL champions.

Angelo Mathews applauds youngster’s fearless batting display

Sri Lanka's all-rounder Angelo Mathews had kind words for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi after his terrific knock in the IPL 2026. His 39-run cameo helped RR score runs in the powerplay, which set the base for the entire innings. Mathews stated that the young batter has absolutely no respect for any bowler, which is insane. Sooryavanshi went on to hit Jasprit Bumrah on the very first ball, showcasing his talent.

"This kid suryawanshi has absolutely no respect for bowlers! What a talent," tweeted Angelo Mathews.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi shines with impactful innings vs MI

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored 39 off 14 balls, including one boundary and five sixes in his innings. Despite being the youngest in the team, Sooryavanshi managed to slam Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, and Shardul Thakur in the first innings. The fans were impressed by the way he took on Bumrah in the game today.

With each game, the young prodigy is evolving and playing better cricket, which is a great sign for him and the Indian team. The 15-year-old batter is now eligible to play international cricket as well, which means that he is likely to make his debut after the IPL 2026.
