The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have suffered a huge loss as their star batter Phil Salt has reportedly returned to the UK due to injury. In the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Salt's performance in the top order was magnificent. While he did struggle in a few games, he still managed to score runs and give the start RCB needed, along with Virat Kohli.

However, the right-handed batter had missed the last three games for the franchise due to an injury. Instead of him, Jacob Bethell has been included in the playing XI. The fans were anticipating Salt's return to the setup, but it seems unlikely now. Bethell has been doing well for the franchise, so they might back him for the opening slot.

Phil Salt returns to the UK amidst IPL 2026: Reports

RCB's star batter Phil Salt has returned to the UK for scans due to his finger injury. As per reports by ESPN, RCB are yet to open up about Salt, but he has returned to his home town amidst the ongoing IPL 2026. There is no clarity on whether he will join the tournament or will be ruled out. This means that Bethell will get more chances in the league this season.

Reportedly, Salt has damaged his finger on his left hand and hence, missed the last three matches. Since the batter is in ECB's central contract, he was requested by the management to return to the country and take the scans of his finger. As per reports, Salt has damaged his finger on his left hand. The incident happened on April 18 against the Delhi Capitals (DC), where Salt made a dive to save a boundary at deep backward square leg in the sixth over.

People can have their opinions: Jacob Bethell

RCB's another opener, Jacob Bethell, gave a befitting reply to Alastair Cook's comment on playing in the IPL rather than for England. Bethell, who is currently in RCB's playing XI, mentioned in a video that he is happy with the decision he made.

"People can have their opinions, say whatever they think about my career but at the end of the day this is the choice I have made and I am pretty happy with it. So just be ready be ready to go when I do play and ready for going back in England," said Bethell in the video posted by RCB.
