Watch: Mohammad Amir to play in IPL 2027? Pacer reveals his plan after getting British passport

Since the former left-arm pacer of the Pakistan side, Mohammad Amir, has confirmed that he would play the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 as an overseas player, many have wondered if he would feature in the 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), using his British passport. 

Currently, playing as a local player of the England side, Amir has played the T20 Blast 2026 besides being available to play as the local player for the Trent Rockets side in The Hundred 2026, where he has done a decent job with the ball.

Amir says he's ready for IPL 2027: "By next year, I'll have the chance — I'll go for it"

Just after playing their recent contest of the 100-ball competition against the Sunrisers Leeds, Amir was heard to confirm that he would play the PSL 2027 as the overseas player. When he was asked about his future in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027, Amir didn’t sound confirmed on his participation in the 20-over event.

The 34-year-old, who has picked up 436 wickets in 369 innings of the T20s at an average of 22.86 and an economy rate of 7.38 with the help of eight four-wicket hauls, has collected 98 wickets in 93 innings of the PSL at an economy rate of 7.72, featuring for the three franchises.

Amir has played in five innings of The Hundred 2026 for the Rockets and has picked up five wickets at an average of 26.60 and a strike rate of 20, along with an economy rate of just under eight, with the best bowling figures of 2/20 in an innings.

How it's possible: Amir's British passport lets him register as a UK player, not Pakistani

Amir married a British citizen, Narjis Khan, in 2016, which became the legal pathway for his residency in the United Kingdom. During the period between 2017 and 2024, he lived in England and played the T20 leagues and county cricket around the country.

In the last two years, Pakistan-born Amir obtained British citizenship around May 2026, which was key for him to play globally. The pacer obtained a UK passport after being able to play as a local player.
