The two sides at the bottom of the points table from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 are the Mumbai Indians and the Lucknow Super Giants. Both sides lost their respective previous contest against the Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders and will face each other on May 04 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The playoff hopes are diming for both franchises as the pressure keeps getting bigger. Both sides are desperate to turn things around and shift into the top gear. Mumbai Indians are at the ninth position in the points table among the ten franchises and have managed to get two wins in nine clashes.

Will Rohit Sharma feature in MI vs LSG clash of IPL 2026?

Mumbai started their campaign with a six-wicket victory against the Kolkata side but experienced four successive defeats in the event. They earned a massive win over the Gujarat Titans by 99 runs before being thrashed for three consecutive defeats.

Lucknow started the event with a shocking six-wicket loss against the Delhi Capitals before getting back on track with two consecutive victories against Hyderabad and Kolkata. But since then, they have lost all the five successive games.

MI’s former captain, Rohit Sharma, has missed all the five successive clashes since picking up the hamstring injury while taking a single against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He has gone through a few practice sessions and fitness tests but hasn’t got to the point where he could be declared match-fit.

Meanwhile, MI hasn’t provided any official update on Rohit’s return. The former skipper, who led the franchise to five IPL titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020, and hasn’t played since suffering the injury three weeks ago.

On the eve of the clash, he hit the nets. But a final call on his participation in the game will take a couple of hours before the toss.

MI and LSG get prepared for IPL 2026 clash to avoid wooden spoon

If Rohit plays, he will most likely to replace Robin Minz in the playing eleven to open with Ryan Rickelton while Will Jacks would have been dropped down the batting order. On the other hand, Josh Inglis is expected to be part of the eleven in place of out-of-form Nicholas Pooran.

It will be the same surface where the Punjab Kings chased down 195/6 with seven wickets and 21 balls in hand. Another high-scoring game is expected to in the evening. The defeated team will very likely get the wooden spoon.
