Under Ishan Kishan's leadership, East Zone completed their much-awaited Duleep Trophy victory in the 2026 season, beating South Zone in the first-innings lead at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The captain and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s dance went viral on social media platforms after the win.
The winning side decided to shake hands with the Tilak Varma-led side close to the end of the Tea break with a lead of more than 700 runs on the fifth day, which was never going to be possible for South Zone to chase. It was a complete team effort from them to break the 14-year exile.

After winning the domestic red-ball competition, Ishan Kishan and his deputy Sooryavanshi celebrated with an incredible dance, which went viral across social media platforms. The duo performed Bhangra with the stumps in hand along with the backroom staff, led by the head coach Ratan Kumar and his team members.

Later on, they met Md Kounain Quirashi and Mohammed Shami, who were the two unbeaten batters during the process, as the captain and his deputy started dancing their hearts out.

It was notable that both Sooryavanshi and Kishan played a huge role in the victory. The captain led from the front with a fine double century in the first innings.
How East Zone clinched the Duleep Trophy 2026 — Full match recap
East Zone laid down the winning platform by posting 708 runs in the first innings. Kishan nailed a dashing knock of 270 runs off just 334 balls thanks to 30 boundaries and seven sixes, while India's Shikhar Mohan and Abhimanyu Easwaran recorded their respective fifties, apart from Kumar Kushagra’s century.
South Zone were bundled out for 336 runs as their captain fell short of a century by one run. Devdutt Padikkal nailed 62 runs off 104 balls as Mukesh Kumar returned with figures of 3/62. Mohammed Shami ended with 2/42 in 16 overs.

Quraishi remained unbeaten on 116 runs as they ended with 388 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Apart from that, Mohan, Kishan, and Anukul Roy recorded their respective half-centuries.
