The former batter of the Pakistan side, Javed Miandad, broke down while highlighting the imprisonment of his former captain and teammate, Imran Khan, making an emotional appeal for his release and insisting that the 1992 ODI World Cup-winning captain was an honest person.

Imran underwent a medical examination in Islamabad before being taken to the prison. His party has challenged the way the exam was carried out after the country’s Supreme Court asked them to take him to Shifa International Hospital and allowed access to the doctors.

Miandad’s comments come amid concerns over Imran’s health and treatment in jail as the 73-year-old former Prime Minister of the country has been held at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi since 2023 after being convicted on corruption charges.

“Someone explain this to me. Is he going to devour Pakistan? Everyone should look at this and understand it. We are all Pakistanis. There was no hostility of any kind. There was no quarrel between us. Imran and I also played county cricket together. For six months in England, we lived, ate, and spent our time together. Later, on the Pakistan team, I handed him the captaincy.” Miandad said in an interview.

“People should sit together and resolve the matter. Whatever the issues are, that is what Pakistan needs. This situation is unnecessarily prolonged and is not right. He, too, is somebody’s son. It often weighs on my mind: what must the poor man be going through? We were very close.” He revealed.

The former batter rejected the statement that he and Imran were rivals. The two had different opinions during their playing careers but always shared the same goal.

“Whatever has happened has happened. Human beings make mistakes. Now bring it to an end. He is also a person who served as prime minister. There is no allegation of theft against him, nor any allegation of that kind.” Miandad addressed.

“God forbid, if anything happens to him, can you imagine what would transpire in the country? All of Pakistan would weep. He did not steal anything. He gave his time and everything else to Pakistan. He is such a great cricketing legend. Resolve the matter.” He concluded.

Vision loss, hospital visit, "medically fit" — What we actually know about Imran Khan's health

A couple of days ago, Sulaiman and Kasim, the two sons of Imran Khan, spoke to the former England captain, Michael Atherton, during Sky Sports’ coverage between England and Pakistan at Lord’s.

“It's very, very clear what they're doing, which is that they're just blatantly trying to kill him in there. They just want to keep him in there as long as possible and hopefully just silence him.” Kasim said.

“The last time he was able to speak to our aunties and anyone else, he said the conditions have severely worsened recently. He has been relating it to other political prisoners who have been killed or who have died in prison.” He highlighted.

They revealed that Imran is being completely isolated for more than 23 hours a day in a cell.
