Former South Africa fielding legend Jonty Rhodes has expressed his views on Virat Kohli's attacking style, stating it is not a weakness but one of the biggest strengths of the India star. Kohli has often been criticized for being too emotional on the field but Rhodes says it is that passion and energy that have him considered one of the best cricketers of his era.

Speaking on a podcast. Rhodes spoke about Kohli's leadership and personality. He explained that the former India captain is completely different from leaders like MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma.
"It was so different to like an MS Dhoni, you know, from a captaincy point of view, it's so different to Rohit Sharma, but it's consistent. So it's Virat, Virat Kohli when he bats, when he's in the field, when he's captain, that's what he does."
Rhodes praised Kohli's intensity and commitment, saying his energy lifts the entire team. "His energy is incredible. He's in the game. If he's fielding in the circle and the ball goes out, he's the guy covering the stumps. He wants every ball. He wants to be in the action."

According to Rhodes, Kohli's aggression is not something that appears only during pressure moments. Rather, it is a part of him and you can see it when he bats or leads the team. The former South African great also highlighted Kohli's work ethic and commitment on the field, saying his actions often set the standard for his teammates.

He has scored 8,467 runs and taken 139 catches in his international career, 34 catches in Tests and 105 catches in ODIs. After retiring, he became one of the most respected fielding coaches in world cricket, with several international teams and T20 franchises around the globe.
Virat Kohli set for stunning return — India to announce ODI squad for England series soon
While Kohli is currently missing India's ODI series against Afghanistan due to a hamstring injury, reports suggest he could return soon for the upcoming tour of the United Kingdom.
The Indian selectors are expected to announce the squad for the England series later this week. The tour will begin with two T20Is against Ireland in Belfast on June 26 and June 28 before India travel to England for a five-match T20I series from July 1 to July 11.

India will then play a three-match ODI series against England between July 14 and July 19. Kohli suffered his hamstring injury during the IPL 2026 final and was ruled out of the ongoing Afghanistan ODI series. Yashasvi Jaiswal was named as his replacement in the squad.
Before the injury setback, Kohli enjoyed another impressive IPL season. The veteran batter scored 675 runs in 16 games and was the key behind his team’s success in winning the IPL trophy.
