There was always going to be a mental blow to any team that would lose a contest after failing to defend a massive score of 260+. And the same picture happened with the Delhi Capitals (DC) during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

The visiting captain, Rajat Patidar, won the toss and decided to bowl first without any doubt. Many reckoned that it would be a better surface for the batters, but in the first 15 minutes, it was hard to tell whether they were playing T20 in Delhi or a Test match in Dublin.

Josh Hazlewood’s double-wicket over blows DC early

Delhi tried an 18-year-old at the opening position. But the young batter, Sahil Parakh, didn’t last long and was dismissed thanks to a ripping yorker from Bhuvneshwar Kumar on his second ball. The ball swung late to uproot the stumps. It was the 29th wicket Bhuvi got in the first over of the IPL.

Bengaluru’s celebration continued as Josh Hazlewood, on his very first delivery, sent back KL Rahul, who was fresh from his 150-run knock a couple of evenings ago. It was a short back-of-a-length ball outside the off stump as the right-handed batter went for the pull. He was not in a great position and top-edged it for the wicket-keeper to complete the easy catch.

Watch the video here:

It was the third time the Australian pacer dismissed Rahul in the T20s at a strike rate of 160.90. On the very next delivery, the lanky pacer found the outside edge of Sameer Rizvi, who went for an expensive drive away from the body and nicked it back to the keeper for a golden duck.

On the first ball of the third over, Bhuvi continued his approach and made Tristan Stubbs poke at the ball on the fourth stump. The batter could have left it alone, but edged it straight to the only slip fielder. Axar Patel, coming to bat in the 18th minute of the action, was dismissed in the same fashion for a three-ball duck.

It was the second-lowest score of seven runs for a team to lose five wickets in the IPL. Kochi Tuskers still has the record for six runs in 2011. On the fifth ball of the fourth over, Hazlewood got the sixth wicket of the innings as Nitish Rana went back for one run. It went from bad to worse for the home side.

Brief Scores (at the time of writing): DC- 18/6 (Tristan Stubss 5, Josh Hazlewood 3/8, Bhuvneshwar Kumar 3/5) vs RCB
