Sanju Samson, who had already smashed two centuries for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, had been in superb form heading into the fixture against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The right-handed wicket-keeper batter started the clash with just a single on the last ball of the very first over before using the width of Kagiso Rabada and cutting the short ball over the extra cover region for a boundary to complete his 5000 runs in the competition. He achieved the record in 3555 balls, which is the third fewest of the league.

Sanju Samson creamed another boundary on the fifth ball of the same over when he stood tall and slammed the short ball over the mid-off region for another one-bounce boundary. But his success didn’t last long as he was finally dismissed for 11 runs off 15 balls.

On the third delivery of the fourth over, Rabada came with a short length far away from Samson, who stayed leg side and slashed it through the off side. But he only managed the outside edge before Jos Buttler completed an easy catch to send back the inform batter for 11 runs.

It was the third dismissal for the batter against the South Africa bowler in T20s at an average of 12.33. Two balls later, the right-arm pacer also sent back Urvil Patel to get their dominance with the ball.

CSK lose track losing three wickets inside powerplay

Just in the fourth over of the innings, CSK used their impact player in the form of Sarfaraz Khan, who bagged a golden duck. On his very first delivery, he was bounced out by the short ball as Jos Buttler held an easy catch to be dismissed for the first-ball duck.

The home side finished the power play with just 28 runs on the board for the loss of three wickets. They were far away from the game at the start as GT showed their incredible discipline with the ball.
