Kevin Pietersen reacting to ESPNCricinfo's greatest men's international cricketers list — shocking tweet saying he will happily give his spot

The former England batter, Kevin Pietersen, has made a shocking tweet on ESPNcricinfo’s greatest cricketers list, where Jacques Kallis leads the chart as Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli find themselves at the second and third spots of the list, respectively.

Pietersen has been ranked at the 23rd position of the list, just before his former team-mate, the premier pacer of England, Stuart Broad, and India’s fantastic spin all-rounder, Ravichandran Ashwin. Many players from the last 25 years have been ranked according to their performance by ESPNcricinfo.

Pietersen: "Lara and Warne were both better than me" — The two legends he wants on ESPNCricinfo's list instead

In the entire list of 25 players, there is no place for either Brian Lara or the late great Shane Warne. And this is a shocking state as Pietersen claimed that he would happily get himself away from the list to make room for two premier former players of the game.

I will happily give up my spot to Lara and Warnie, who were both better than me.- The former England batter posted on his X account (formerly known as Twitter) as it shocked the fans on that platform.

There might be a reason for the selection. The players who have made it to the list are those who have done really well in the last 25 years of the game. Lara, meanwhile, retired in 2008, having played most of his cricket before 2000.

In the same way, Warne retired from international cricket in 2007, despite playing 10 years of his cricket before 2000. None of these players passes the criteria.

Muttiah Muralidharan is in fourth position, while Ricky Ponting finds himself at number five. AB de Villiers, Kumar Sangakkara, Dale Steyn, Joe Root, and Steve Smith complete the top 10 list.

At number 11, Adam Gilchrist finds his name, followed by Rahul Dravid, James Anderson, MS Dhoni, and Jasprit Bumrah among the top 15 players. In the next five players, the list includes Kane Williamson, Mitchell Starc, Chris Gayle, Ben Stokes, and Pat Cummins.

In the list of the last five players from the top 25, Mahela Jayawardene, Virender Sehwag, Pietersen, Broad, and Ashwin complete the chart. But the most controversial part was that Rohit Sharma, despite a successful career, hasn’t been included in the list of top 25 players.
