The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Gujarat Titans (GT) will meet each other during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash at the Eden Gardens, which will host a game after a long break due to the elections of the state elections. The contest will be vital for both sides’ qualification among the top four.

The fortunes have changed in the 10-team league competition as midway through the event, the Shubman Gill-led side looked like a team of unplanned mystery. But cut to after 12 games, they are strong contenders to win the title.

GT one win away from Playoff history — but what does tonight mean for GT?

Gujarat is currently in the second position of the points table. They have earned eight victories in 12 clashes for 16 points at a net run rate of +0.551. They are on a five-match winning streak after starting the event with two successive defeats. After the first seven encounters, they had only three victories. But they made a strong return in the middle half of the tournament.

Headlined by a clinical bowling attack of Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj, they will need another win to overtake the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). If they win, they will qualify for the playoffs, becoming the first side to do so this season. Moreover, they will have a chance of more than 95% for the top-two finish.

KKR’s campaign on the brink — What does a loss at Eden Gardens mean for the defending champions?

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is currently at the eighth position of the table with four victories in 11 games at a net run rate of -0.198. After six defeats to begin the event, they gained four successive victories before losing to the Bengaluru side.

KKR has three games remaining, all at home after being on the road for close to a month. Whether that’s a good thing or not, only time will tell. They have managed only one win in the three games of the edition at home. A loss against GT will not mathematically rule them out of the playoff contention, but they will then have to depend on other results going their way.
