During the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash between the Gujarat Titans (GT) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Washington Sundar played an audacious shot for a six over the ropes to gain the momentum in favour of the 2022 champions.

On a tacky surface, Gujarat didn’t make a strong start with the bat, losing their captain, Shubman Gill, early in the first innings before Nishant Sindhu contributed a decent knock. But the latter’s dismissal, Sundar made his way into the middle.

GT vs SRH IPL 2026 — Washington Sundar's cheeky six shifts match momentum

Washington Sundar prodded forward and chipped his very first delivery over the bowler’s head for a fine boundary before going back into the crease and punching the short ball from Shivang Kumar through the covers for four runs. He slowly started to get the momentum in the contest.

The Indian all-rounder stood tall and lofted the length delivery towards wide long-off for another boundary before making room and carving the wide delivery through the backward point region for a fine boundary. The Chennai-born started to make a strong comeback for the Titans in the fixture.

The southpaw smashed Eshan Malinga in all parts of the park on the penultimate over. On the second delivery of the over, he pulled the short ball to the deep square leg fence for a boundary before scooping the fifth ball for another four into the short fine leg region.

But the best shot of the evening from his bat came on the last ball of that over. Cheekily, he whipped the low full toss over the deep mid-wicket region for a flat six to celebrate his half-century off just 32 balls. His half-century and Sai Sudharsan’s 61 runs restricted the home side to 168/5 in their allotted 20 overs.
