The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has landed in huge controversy after imposing a fine of PKR 20 million on Naseem Shah over the social media row. The star bowler commented PM Nawaz Sharif's daughter during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 and later deleted the comment. He also went on to say that his account was hacked and has been retrieved.

PCB mentioned that Naseem made an unconditional apology and sacked his social media manager. Despite that, a three-member disciplinary committee gave the judgment against the player and imposed a huge fine on him, which is equivalent to his annual contract. This has sparked a huge outrage on social media among the fans.

Ali Khan Tareen slams PCB’s logic behind Naseem Shah punishment

Multan Sultan's former owner, Ali Khan Tareen, slammed PCB for imposing a hefty fine on Naseem Shah after the Maryam Nawaz controversy. He compared the two decisions and called out the board for showing hypocrisy in their decisions.

"PCB bans Naseem’s social media manager from working with contracted players. In the same breath, they fined Naseem the biggest fine in PCB history. If your own punishment confirms the manager did it, how do you justify fining the player? Make it make sense," tweeted Ali Khan Tareen.

PCB bans social media manager but fines Naseem Shah heavily

PCB did a thorough investigation into the matter regarding Naseem Shah and concluded that it was the social media manager's fault, and they have been blacklisted from managing the contracted players. Apart from that, they have fined Naseem Shah with PKR 20 million (approx. USD 72000).

Imposing such a heavy fine that is nearly equivalent to his annual central contract salary is both disproportionate and unjust. Fines should serve as a deterrent, not as a means to teach a lesson, and PCB simply went too far this time.

“Naseem’s reply was reviewed by the committee, and after evaluating everything, it has been determined that Naseem is found to have breached various clauses of his central contract, and a fine of PKR 2 crores has been imposed. It was noted that Naseem Shah's social media adviser has already been terminated by Naseem and shall be blacklisted by the PCB from associating with any player falling under the PCB's jurisdiction," said PCB.

Fans react as controversy deepens around PCB’s decision

Fans erupted on social media as the controversy around PCB's decision intensified. Many backed Naseem Shah, calling the fine “harsh” and “unfair,” while others felt rules must be followed regardless of stature. Ali Khan Tareen’s remarks further fueled the debate, with fans demanding transparency and consistency.
