The star spinner of the Bangladesh side, Nayeem Hasan, was assaulted by the law enforcement agency in Chattogram on the night of June 12 when the player was heading home from the Dhaka airport after his team Prime Bank Cricket Club’s match in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League game, in Savar, ended.

Nayeem has featured in 14 Tests for the Bangladesh side and picked up 48 wickets at an average of 28.56 and a strike rate of 55.30 with four five-wicket hauls at the best bowling figures of 6/105 in an innings. What exactly happened? Inside Nayeem Hasan's shocking encounter with law enforcement

During the assault incident, the policeman stopped the CNG-run auto-rickshaw Nayeem was in near the Lalkhan Bazar are. The star player described the officers as being hostile, through he was not sure of their aggression towards him.

“I repeatedly told them who I was, but they refused to listen The police beat me indiscriminately with sticks and plastic pipes. Later, when I identified myself at the police station, the officer-in-charge told me to keep my eyes down while speaking.” The spinner told the reporters in Chattogram.

“If they were really police officers, why did they try to put me into a CNG instead of a police vehicle? I want a fair investigation and justice over the entire incident.” He added after being released in the early morning of Saturday and returned home.

Several stars of the Bangladesh cricket, including Mushfiqur Rahim, have reacted to the incident on the social media pages, while the Chattogram Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner promised of taking actions against those found guilty.

“The Bangladesh Cricket Board expresses its deep concern regarding the reported incident involving harassment and abuse of Bangladesh national team cricketer Nayeem Hasan by some law enforcing agency members in Chattogram on Friday evening.” The BCB statement revealed.
