The argument over India’s next T20I captain is heating up, with a number of experts and analysts weighing in on who should succeed current captain Virat Kohli, who will step down after the current T20 World Cup. Former India bowler Ashish Nehra has made his selection for the next India T20I captain. While Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and KL Rahul have emerged as frontrunners to succeed Virat, Nehra has backed pacer Jasprit Bumrah.
“Apart from Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul have been mentioned. Pant has travelled the world, carried drinks, and been kicked off the squad on several occasions. After Mayank Agarwal was injured, Rahul was recalled to the Test team. As Ajay (Jadeja) stated, he (Bumrah) is quite knowledgeable about the game. In all formats, he is also a member of the starting XI. There’s nothing in the rule book that says pacers can’t be captains ”, stated Nehra during a conversation with Cricbuzz.
Currently, India is playing in the T20 World Cup. India won their next two games against Afghanistan and Scotland after losing their first two to Pakistan and New Zealand. Virat Kohli’s team has a little chance of reaching the semi-finals. In order to beat Namibia on Monday, India must hope Afghanistan beats New Zealand on Sunday. Let’s see if things turn in India’s favor in the next few games!
