Phil Salt, even when he didn’t smash a massive score in a few games, made a significant impact in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). He was expected to continue the same dominance with the bat during the encounter against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Bengaluru didn’t get an explosive start to the innings, but it was Phil Salt who decided to free his arms to release the pressure of the run rate. The Delhi bowlers used the pace variations beautifully, along with different lines and lengths to challenge the opening pair of Salt and Virat Kohli.

On the third delivery of the clash, Salt used his quick hands to smash the ball into the backward point region for a powerful boundary before elegantly using the aerial drive over the wide mid-off for the same result. In the fifth over, he decided to use his power against Auqib Nabi.

The first delivery was clubbed over the backward point for a boundary before the right-handed batter used his big backfoot and thumped the full delivery over the long-on region for a massive six. Even after Kohli’s dismissal, he didn’t take a back step.

When Kuldeep Yadav came into the attack, the England opener latched on to the over-pitched delivery with a good swing of the willow to pump it over the long-off region for a massive six to celebrate his half-century in 30 balls.

He powered another six into the mid-wicket region against the left-arm wrist spinner, who had the last laugh with the wicket of Salt for 63 runs off 39 balls, shouldering on four boundaries and three sixes.

RCB lose track against DC's smartness to reach 175/8

On a slow surface, Bengaluru was challenged by the two spinners- Kuldeep and Axar Patel. Their two aggressive lower-order batters, Tim David and Romario Shepherd, struggled to get going for 26 and one run, respectively, as the UP spinner finished with figures of 2/32 in four overs. The DC captain returned with 2/18 in three overs.

RCB was 146/4 after 15 overs, but some impressive death overs' bowling kept the home side to 175/8 in their allotted 20 overs. The last two overs costed only eight runs for the lose of two wickets.

Brief Scores (at the time of writing): RCB- 175/8 (Phil Salt 63, Axar Patel 2/18, Kuldeep Yadav 2/32) vs DC
