Ravindra Jadeja Spin's the Chennai Web on Australia

Ravindra Jadeja has slowly been getting a lot of fame in Chennai over the years. His exploits for the local franchise and his success in the IPL earlier this year have made him a pretty big figure in the city. Back in Chennai for the blues, Ravindra Jadeja put all his experience to use once again.

He has been a regular member at the ground since 2012 and probably knows the ground better than anyone in the squad with home boy Ravichandran Ashwin an exception. With a nice variety in the bowling attack, Ravindra Jadeja‘s role further becomes all the more easy.

A wrist-spinner in Kuldeep Yadav and a master with variations in Ashwin has allowed Ravindra Jadeja to hit the same spot and focus on accuracy. He is known for his unwavering accuracy and that is what he was putting on show. He was the sixth bowler to be bought on, held back with David Warner still around.

From the 20th over though, with the ball getting older Ravindra Jadeja kept getting better. Starting a little lose in the first over he quickly found his rhythm and started causing troubles for Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith. The pair had their struggles against him in the Test series back in February and they were finding it tough once more.

To help, the pressure built by Ashwin and Kuldeep earlier allowed Jadeja to start with a strong platform. He choked the pair with full balls on the stumps. As the innings progressed and ball got older the turn started to get a lot more extravagant.

By his fifth over the turn was still not at a miraculous level. The first ball of his over though was vintage Ravindra Jadeja. A length ball, landing in middle, gripping just enough and turning past the outside edge to hit the top of off. He did enough to send the bail flying and had Steve Smith out after he was settling into his innings well.

It was a crucial breakthrough with a partnership building and the wicket opened the floodgates in someway. He proved that the opening was open the very next over. Into his sixth, Ravindra Jadeja picked up two in an over to send Labuschagne, another set batter and Carey packing. Australia were suddenly 119/5 an looking to play catch-up in their innings.

On the other side, Ravindra Jadeja was going through 90 second overs. He continued to plug the ball at a good length and the turn just kept increasing. The burst helped India win the most important part of a game in Chennai, the middle-overs. With the ball getting softer that is the part where the game could be one or lost as spinners take complete control.

To finish, Ravindra Jadeja went at less than 3 an over. He finished with two maidens highlighting his tight lines. Around him Kuldeep Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin built just as much, if not more pressure. Together the trio finished with 6 and were very economical. Using the traditional nature of the track, the trio ran through the line-up. Out of the trio though it was Jadeja who stood out. Running through the middle order and choking them, he used his knowledge of the ground beautifully to set-up an interesting chase.
