A couple of weeks ago, everything seemed to be darting away from Rinku Singh, who was struggling in the field and didn’t get enough power and timing with the bat during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 for the Lucknow Super Giants. But he slowly seems to be turning the performance in the middle half of the competition.

Having been 73/6 in 11 overs, Kolkata needed their veteran batter, Rinku Singh, to stand up under pressure and bail them out of trouble with a respectable score. But the southpaw gave back the reward on the faith besides displaying some special show in the field at the boundary rope.

On the second delivery of the 11th over, Cameron Green tried to go full at the opening back of the LSG side, Aiden Markram, away from the off stump. The right-handed batter got forward to loft and struck it cleanly. But he didn’t get enough elevation off his blade.

Rinku was at the long off region as he grabbed the catch with both feet, being close to the cushions one after the other. He showed great presence of mind, knowing how to keep them away from them, and then threw it up. It went out and came back to take it.

That was a massive wicket from the Protea batter, who went back to the hut for 31 runs off 27 balls with the help of two boundaries and one six. It was the second time Green got the wicket of Markram, who managed eight runs off six balls in two innings.

Earlier in the game, he played a fantastic knock of 83 runs in just 51 balls at a strike rate of 162.75, scoring seven boundaries and five sixes. He nailed Digvesh Rathi for four successive sixes in the final over of the innings. It was a wrong decision from the LSG captain to throw the ball to a spinner.

LSG loses track of tough chase on tricky surface

Kolkata was excellent in putting pressure on the Lucknow side by drying up the runs as the batters suddenly tried a few innovative shots and brought their dismissal. Mohsin Khan used the pace and bounced for his fine bowling figures of 5/23 in four overs.

LSG found themselves 81/3 in 13 overs and needed some big shots towards the end to get to the chase as the required run rate had nearly reached the 11-mark.

Brief Scores (at the time of writing): LSG 93/5 (R Pant 42, Anukul Roy 1/9) vs KKR 155/7 (Rishabh Pant 83*, Mohsin Khan 5/24)
