The highs and lows in professional sport are quite regular, and Rishabh Pant experienced the latter on many occasions during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, both with the bat and as the leader of the franchise, as the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) stayed at the bottom of the points table with six successive defeats in nine clashes.

By the time he walked into the middle, the Lucknow side was at a clinical position with 165/2 in 16.1 overs as their opening batter, Mitchell Marsh, celebrated a fine knock of 111 runs off 56 balls with the help of nine sixes and as many boundaries. The need of the hour was to continue the same aggression.

Rishabh Pant missed the first ball for a wild swipe before smashing two successive boundaries against Josh Hazlewood. The second ball was a low full-toss down the leg as he swung the bat to get the under-age for a boundary before slicing the full-toss over the point region for the same result.

The left-handed batter finished the over with a huge six into the wide long-off region as he went hard on the slog. In the last three deliveries of the innings, Pant made a massive contribution with a pair of boundaries and a six.

The fourth ball of the 19th over reduced contest was a length delivery angled into the southpaw from Rasikh Salam as Pant swiveled the pull over the backward square for a boundary. He backed away and drove the fifth ball for another four into the wide of the mid-off region.

The Delhi-born finished the innings with his trademark and stunning reverse sweep shot. It was a fuller-length delivery at the stumps from the right-arm pacer as Pant changed his stance and swept it over the backward point for a towering six.

LSG crosses 200 before picking two early wickets of RCB

Pant remained unbeaten on 32 runs off just 10 deliveries at a strike rate of 320 with the help of four boundaries and a couple of sixes, while Nicholas Pooran contributed 38 runs in 23 balls with four boundaries and one six after Marsh set the platform with a fine boundary as LSG ended up with 209/3 in 19 overs.

In the revised chase of 213 runs, RCB lost their openers, Jacob Bethell and Virat Kohli, for only four runs as they couldn’t get the expected start inside the powerplay. Lucknow bowlers were on the mark from the very first ball of the innings.
