The ongoing Kerala Cricket League 2025 (KLC 2025) tournament can be a blessing in disguise for Sanju Samson; he needs it ahead of the Asia Cup 2025. With barely a fortnight to go before the inauguration of the Asia Cup, the keeper-batter has been preparing through the regional league with Kochi Blue Tigers (KBT). Those were not usual scenes when the opener came to bat for Kochi as a middle-order batsman.

For the first two matches of the franchise, Sanju batted down the batting order before bouncing back to his original spot. BCCI has made some very interesting choices for the Asia Cup squad. Along with Sanju, the squad contains Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill, who are also openers. There are high chances that the team management can ask Gill, the vice captain of the Asia Cup team and Test setup skipper, to open the innings in the prestigious tournament.

In that case, to build the possible strongest team on paper, Sanju may have to play as a middle-order batsman. Keeping the possibilities in mind, Sanju, as part of his preparation, did not hesitate to play as a middle-order batsman for KBT, though his appearances were sluggish.

Sanju is very confident

"Being a professional and an internally established player, Sanju is flexible enough to make the adjustments if he has to bat down the order. His flexibility is what guides him, and he is very confident about his abilities," Samson's mentor and coach Raiphi Gomez said.

If he has to bat in the middle order for India in the T20I format, then he may have to play the role of a finisher too. In his last couple of KCL matches, where he batted as an opener, he played some clinical shots for maximum, which showed his ability to play big shots.
