During the second semifinal of the Women’s Asian Games 2026 against Bangladesh, India’s opener, Shafali Verma, celebrated a fine century off 49 balls as the blue brigade posted a massive score in their allotted 20 overs. Shafali showed her power and versatility around the park to celebrate the milestone.
Shafali Verma has been a key reason for India’s dominance in the shortest format, especially in the powerplay overs. The left-handed batter has paired with Smriti Mandhana in the opening partnership to celebrate various records for the national side.

Shafali’s first boundary of the innings came on the very first ball of the second over when she played the lofted drive wide of extra cover before putting the tossed-up delivery over the long-off region for a massive six. She greeted Sultana Khatun with another six over the long-on region.

Verma continued her aggressive batting with another six in the mid-off region against Nahida Akhter and celebrated her half-century with a fine six as she shimmied down the pitch and pumped the bowler for a six.

The youngster continued to show her power around the field with continuous sixes as India put their feet on the accelerator. On the final delivery of the innings, she finally reached the three-figure mark off just 49 balls. It was the joint-fastest century in women’s T20Is for India along with Harmanpreet Kaur.
Shafali’s nine sixes are also the joint-most by any batter in one innings of the women’s T20Is. She has now collected 815 runs in 2026 in the women’s T20Is.
Mandhana and Harmanpreet hip in as India post a commanding 195/4 against Bangladesh
Mandhana and Verma put up a partnership of 72 runs for the opening wicket in six overs, where the former smashed 37 runs off just 19 balls at a strike rate of 194.74, thanks to her five boundaries and two sixes. Apart from Verma, Harmanpreet Kaur nailed 40 runs off 33 balls as they posted 195/4 in their 20 overs.

Bangladesh, in the chase, made a poor start as they were restricted to 45/4 in eight overs. Dilara Akter was unbeaten on 26 runs off 20 balls at a strike rate of 130, with four boundaries and one six, while every India bowler had one wicket besides their name.
