Shreyanka Patil's stunning diving catch and Deepti Sharma's five-wicket haul helped India Women crush Pakistan by 64 runs in their opening match of the Women's T20 World Cup 2026.

India Women began their ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 campaign on a high by thrashing Pakistan Women by 64 runs at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The match witnessed many standout performances but there was one moment that held everyone's attention a stunning diving catch by Shreyanka Patil.
Batting first, India made a competitive 170/6 in 20 overs after good knocks from Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh. Pakistan never recovered during the chase as India’s bowlers and fielders produced a complete team performance.

One of the best moments of the match was the 15th over of Pakistan's innings when Shree Charani dismissed Rameen Shamim off a breathtaking catch by Shreyanka Patil.
On 14.4 overs, Charani bowled a tossed-up delivery outside off stump. Rameen Shamim charged down the pitch and attempted to loft the ball over the covers. However, she failed to get to the pitch of the ball and only managed to slice it towards the backward point.
Shreyanka reacted instantly and sprinted to her right before diving full stretch. She grabbed the ball above the ground to take a fantastic catch. The wicket left Pakistan reeling at 91 for 7 and turned the game completely in India’s favor.

The catch soon went viral on social media as fans hailed it as one of the best catches of the tournament to date.
India crush Pakistan by 64 runs — A dominant start to their Women's T20 World Cup 2026 campaign
After winning the toss and opting to bat, India Women made it to 170/6 in their 20 overs. Smriti Mandhana led the charge with a brilliant 44-ball 68, hitting nine fours and two sixes. Harmanpreet Kaur scored 36 off 35 balls in a quick cameo, while Richa Ghosh ended powerfully with 34 not out from 17 balls.
Fatima Sana and Sadia Iqbal took two wickets each for Pakistan however, they were unable to prevent India from scoring a challenging total.
In reply, Pakistan started positively but lost momentum against India's spin attack. Muneeba Ali was the top scorer with 41 runs, while no other batter could make a significant contribution.
Deepti Sharma produced a match-winning spell of 5/10 in four overs, removing Gull Feroza, Ayesha Zafar, Aliya Riaz, Nashra Sandhu and Tasmia Rubab. Shree Charani also impressed with figures of 3/21 as Pakistan were bowled out well short of the target.
The match also produced some major milestones. Smriti Mandhana became the Indian woman with the most sixes in WT20Is with 87 sixes, while Deepti Sharma became the leading wicket-taker in WT20I history with 166 wickets. Deepti also completed 350 international wickets across all formats.
India Women will next face Netherlands Women on June 17 at Headingley, Leeds, while Pakistan Women will take on South Africa Women on the same day at Edgbaston.
