Sri Lanka name 14-member squad for Second Test vs India — Sahan Arachchige, Kamil Mishara included

Sri Lanka have named a 14-member squad for the second Test vs India, drafting in uncapped duo Sahan Arachchige and Kamil Mishara as they aim for a strong comeback to level the series in Colombo

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), two days before the second Test of the two-match series against India, has announced its 14-member squad for the encounter. The all-rounder, Sahan Arachchige, and the batter, Kamil Mishara, have been included in the side that will face the Shubman Gill-led side in Colombo from August 23.  

In the opening game of the series at the Galle Cricket Club, the home side couldn’t do well in the first innings with the ball and gave away a massive score. And once they gifted a lead of 178 runs in the first innings to the blue brigade, they were far behind in the fixture and couldn’t make a comeback.

Uncapped duo Sahan Arachchige and Kamil Mishara drafted in as injuries rule out Mendis, Chandimal and Nissanka

Dinesh Chandimal has already been ruled out of the series as he suffered an injury to the head while fielding during the opening Test. Pasindu Sooriyabandara, who came on as a concussion replacement in the game for the second innings, made a golden duck/

There was no place for the other opener, Nishan Madushka, while the bowling all-rounder, Ramesh Mendis, and the pacer Dilshan Madhuska missed out.

Sahan Arachchige has been rewarded with the position after he scored 127 in the second game of the unofficial Test against India A and managed 72 in the first game to top the charts for runs for his team, second only to India’s Sai Sudharsan.

Mishra also played a vital role in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2026having scored 411 runs in nine innings, including the century against Galle Gallants.

Lahiru Udara, Kamil Mishara, Pasindu Sooriyabandara, Kamindu Mendis (Vice Captain), Dhananjaya De Silva (Captain), Sahan Arachchige, Sonal Dinusha, Niroshan Dickwella, Keshara Nuwantha, Prabath Jayasuriya, Milan Ratnayake, Lahiru Kumara, Asitha Fernando and Vishwa Fernando

Sri Lanka eye a must-win effort in Colombo to level the series after a 165-run defeat in Galle

In the opening Test of the series, Devdutt Padikkal smashed a fine knock of 167 runs in the first innings to set the tone for the visitors. For the hosts, Sonal Dinusha was the only shining light with the bat across the two innings, as he smacked 100 in the first innings followed by 84 runs in the second.

Asitha Fernando returned with figures of 4/31 in 8.5 overs in the second innings, while the debutant Keshara Nuwantha was decent with his four wickets in the 62 overs he bowled in the entire Test match.

Sri Lanka are far behind in qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025/27 final. However, they can draw the series with a win in Colombo and create roadblocks for the opposition.
