Watch: Tanzid Hasan Tamim makes history with maiden Test century vs Australia in 1st Test

Playing in just his second Test match of his career, the young left-handed opening batter of the Bangladesh side, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, has made history by becoming the first batter of the country to score a Test century on Australian soil on day two of the ongoing first Test in Darwin. 

Tanzid, at 25, produced a superb knock of 101 runs off 190 balls to put the visiting side firmly in the driver’s seat. His landmark knock put them in a strong position against a strong Pat Cummins-led side, who found themselves on the back foot.

Sakib played some superb shots around the park against the Australian bowling unit, which consisted of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Cummins, and Nathan Lyon. He used his feet and put the ball over the ropes for a massive six to assert dominance with the bat.

On the last ball of the 64th over, the left-handed batter went forward and drove Lyon for a single to complete a fine century. He leapt and punched the air to take off his helmet and kissed the crest on it. He was joined by a bear hug from the captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto.

There was a massive smile on his face as he soaked up the standing ovation from the Darwin crowd and his teammates. He was nervous in the 90s but soaked the pressure beautifully to make it into the three-figure mark. He was finally dismissed on 101 runs with eight boundaries and one six.

How Bangladesh bowled out Australia for 198 then piled on 332/6 to seize total control in Darwin

Earlier in the contest, Australia, winning the toss and deciding to bat first, were bundled out for 198 runs in the first innings, as only Steve Smith stood there as the lone fighter with 71 runs, shouldering seven boundaries and one six. Hasan Mahmud troubled them with pace and control and returned with figures of 6/55 in 17 overs. 

In reply, Bangladesh gained a massive lead of over 140 runs as they made their way to 340/6. Apart from Tamim’s century, Shanto creamed a fine knock of 84 runs off 126 balls to keep the pressure on the home bowlers.

The fans erupted as Tanzid wrote the record books with a fine century on social media platforms-
