Watch: Virat Kohli out for a golden duck again! RCB stumble early chasing 167 against MI in IPL 2026
Virat Kohli's nightmare with the bat continues in IPL 2026 as he was dismissed for a another golden duck against Mumbai Indians. The pressure mounts on RCB's middle order to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) opener, Virat Kohli, continued his small struggling period in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 with consecutive golden ducks. He was dismissed for the first-ball duck during their encounter against the Mumbai Indians at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur.
Kohli was really disappointed with the choice of shot at that time as he made his way back into the pavilion. It was a massive blow for the defending champions, who fell like a pack of cards in their previous chase against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) after losing the Delhi-born early.

Jacob Bethell started the 167-run chase with two successive boundaries against Deepak Chahar to send a strong message to the five-time champions. But on the fourth delivery, the bowler took the revenge with the massive wicket of Kohli.

The former Indian captain looked to go over the mid-off region as the ball bounced a tad more than he expected. It hit him high on the bat and lobbed into the hands of Raj Bawa, who dived forward and grabbed a very good catch to send back the right-handed batter for a golden duck.

Even in the previous game, he got a superb inswing delivery from Prince Yadav as it went through his defense to break the stumps. It was the second time he was dismissed for successive ducks in the IPL after 2022. Kohli now has 379 runs in 11 innings of IPL 2026 at an average of 42.11 and a strike rate of 163.36 with three fifties at the best score of 81.

Chahar continued his success with another wicket in his second over. After being smashed for a six, he made a strong return to pick up the wicket of Devdutt Padikkal, who poked a thick outside edge into the hands of the wicket-keeper.
He was backed up well by Corbin Bosch, who started his spell with another big wicket of Rajat Patidar. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain’s half-hearted hook shot went in the air before the wicket-keeper completed the simple catch.
What Kohli’s dismissal means for the chase?
Kohli’s dismissal was a body blow for Bengaluru, who lost someone who could hold one end and let the other batters continue the aggression from the other end. This saw RCB getting restricted to 47/3 in six overs on a surface that was a bit tacky to start for the new batters.
The former RCB captain has always been fabulous in such circumstances where one batter would need to stay on at the end of the crease in a decent chase. He holds the spirit of the side, but Kohli’s dismissal in the 167-chase didn’t go well for his franchise.
