Soon after celebrating his record-breaking half-century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium at Chepauk, Urvil Patel pulled out a short note with a heartfelt message written on it. He folded his hands in a prayer position. 

Chennai Super Kings found themselves in an acid test of going for the chase of 204 runs against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), having not found themselves in a good position of not completing a 190+ target since IPL 2019. The pressure was massive on the home sides, especially with the high stakes of the playoff spot.

The first ball was a normal single from Urvil, who smashed his second delivery of the chase for a massive six into the deep mid-wicket stand before continuing the same aggression with three successive over boundaries in the wide mid-on region against Avesh Khan.

His fifth ball came against Digvesh Rathi and was deposited into the long-on fence for another over boundary. It was followed by two more sixes and a four in the next three balls. The third delivery of the action was shoveled over the wide mid-wicket for a 98-meter six.

The Gujarat-born welcomed Mohammed Shami after the powerplay with his seventh six of the evening in just 11 deliveries. He finally celebrated his half-century in just 13 balls, equaling the record with Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Soon after the landmark, the Indian batter took a note out of his pocket and showed it to the camera. He folded his hands in the prayer position and then took out that piece of paper from his pocket. It read, ‘This is for you, Papa.’ The next few lines- ‘Tamaru sapnu aaje puru thayu cricketer motu banine batavyu.’ It was written in Gujarat, his mother tongue.

Urvil continued the onslaught with another six over the deep backward square before being finally dismissed for 65 runs off 23 deliveries at a strike rate of 282.61, thanks to eight sixes and a couple of boundaries.

Coming as an injury replacement for the franchise in the previous edition, he warmed the benches at the start of 2026. But once he got the chance, he showed his capability, having notched up 110 runs in four innings of this campaign at a strike rate of 234.04.
