Kohli ruled out of Afghanistan ODIs — What his absence means for India's batting order
While fans wait for the Delhi event, Kohli is currently recovering from a distal semimembranosus tendon tear suffered during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL 2026 title-winning campaign. The injury has ruled him out of India's three-match ODI series against Afghanistan.
Before getting injured, Kohli enjoyed another outstanding IPL season. The RCB star scored 675 runs in 16 matches at an average of 56.25 and played a major role in helping Bengaluru defend their title. His campaign included an unbeaten 105 against Kolkata Knight Riders, which was his ninth IPL century.
To replace Kohli, India have included Yashasvi Jaiswal in the ODI squad. The team management is also using the series to test multiple options at the No. 3 position, with KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, and Jaiswal all in contention as India continue preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

India chased the target comfortably, reaching 195/3 in 22.5 overs to win by seven wickets and take a 1-0 lead in the series. Captain Shubman Gill starred with an unbeaten 84 off 66 balls and was named Player of the Match.
