[WATCH] 'Main College Ke Samne....' – Suryakumar Yadav reveals how he first met wife Devisha Shetty
Suryakumar Yadav recalls his love-at-first-sight moment with wife Devisha Shetty outside college, years before becoming India's T20I captain.

Team India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, opened up about the moment he first met his wife, Devisha Shetty, during an appearance on the chat show Who’s the Boss?, hosted by Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra. Recalling their first meeting in 2012, Suryakumar said it was “love at first sight” when he saw Devisha near the college where he had studied. Devisha, a student at the time, was introduced to him by a mutual friend.
Sharing the story, Suryakumar said, “Main college ke samne katte pe baitha tha apne doston ke saath. She came walking from the other side of the college, and I just happened to notice her. I saw our mutual friend was talking to someone. And I was like, ‘bro, I am standing here. who are you talking to?’ Then I saw Devisha walking towards us.” He continued, “He literally ran towards her. She came from behind the bus stand, and it was a love-at-first-sight moment. I was literally brushing aside my friends to see who she was. Then I told my friend, ‘what are you doing, at least introduce me.’ She just talked to my friend and left.”
Devisha also shared her perspective, saying, “In 2012, he was an ex-student of the college that I was studying in. He was with a common friend, and that guy made us meet.” Suryakumar, who was determined to stay in touch, managed to get Devisha’s BBM pin from the mutual friend. He revealed, “He messaged me [on BBM], but I didn’t accept it… Then he messaged me on Facebook, and we used to video call on Skype.”
From College Crush to Cricket Stardom
The couple, who tied the knot in July 2016 after dating for a few years, are now among the most popular cricketing pairs on social media. They were recently spotted at Wimbledon 2025. Devisha admitted that she didn’t know who Suryakumar was when they first met, saying, “He was not too popular at that time.” Reflecting on his rise, she said, “Never thought that life would bring us here. It’s good to see the growth from just being there in MI, not playing any games. I think he played one game in three years.”

She further added, “He’s not had a sudden spike. Things have come slowly, but actually it’s good because it was nice to see him dealing so maturely with the growth that life has given him.” Since making his international debut in March 2021, Suryakumar has risen to captain India in T20Is, scoring 2,598 runs in 83 matches at a blistering strike rate of 167.07.
