West Indies put up a mammoth total on the board against Zimbabwe in the ongoing Super 8 clash in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. Two of their best batters, Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell, wreaked havoc on the bowling department, making sure to score 254 runs in the first innings. Zimbabwe decided to bowl first, and after the initial overs, it looked like a great decision.

However, when Hetmyer came out to bat, he smashed the bowling attack throughout. He went on to score 85 off 34 balls, including seven boundaries and sixes. After his dismissal, just when everybody would have thought the Caribbean team would lose more wickets, Powell came in to continue from where Hetmyer had left off.

He slammed 59 off 35 balls, hitting four boundaries and sixes. But one of those sixes was humongous. The ball went out of the park as the six was 106 meters long. The crowd was stunned, and so was the dressing room. He batted confidently, respected the good balls, and hit the bad deliveries out of the park.

The six came off in the 13th over when Dion Myers bowled a full outside off, in the slot, and Powell launched it over the long-off. Everyone was shocked to see the six and the fine shot by the batter.

WI post 254 in first innings against Zimbabwe

West Indies were in an astounding form today, scoring second highest total in the history of the T20 World Cup. It was a brilliant batting performance by Hetmyer and Powell in the middle overs, giving the kind of start the team needed in the Super 8 stage. With this performance, they will not only register a victory but also get their NRR high.

As we write, Zimbabwe have already lost four wickets within ten overs. The chances of winning from here and chasing a total like this are quite unlikely. They will play their next match against India on February 26. That will be a crucial encounter for both teams since they have lost one match each. The team that loses the next match will be virtually eliminated from the tournament.
