Pacer Mahli Beardman looks set to make his ODI debut against England this month as Australia rested their big three and injured Nathan Ellis. At the same time, Sam Harper and Lachlan Shaw earned T20I call-ups, along with recalls for Mitchell Own and Jake Fraser-McGurk for the five-match T20I series.

Tim David, despite his return to the List A cricket for Tasmania last week, hasn’t got any place in the ODI squad. Liam Scott, meanwhile, has been called back after being left out of the Zimbabwe and South Africa trip, while Jack Edwards has retained his place after debuting in the Rainbow Nation.

Australia have rested Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins from the three ODIs to be played on November 13, 15, and 18 in Perth, Adelaide, and Hobart. It remains to be seen whether they would feature in any Sheffield Shield game before the opening Test against New Zealand in Perth on December 09.

“We are in the middle of a highly demanding phase of our schedule. Our multi-format players are transitioning directly from the tour of South Africa into an ODI and T20 series, leaving a narrow window to ensure the squad is physically prepared and fresh for the upcoming New Zealand Test series.” The chairman of selectors, George Bailey, said.

Beardman’s inclusion has been eye-catching coming off an Australia A 50-over tour of India where he bowled beautifully against a strong India A side.

The T20I squad looks different. Fraser-McGurk has returned to the international set-up since July 2025. He has smashed 43* off 33 balls, 88 off 47, and 122 from 63 balls in three of his four domestic innings so far this season for South Australia.

“Jake and Mitch return to the T20 side, and we believe their ball-striking can be a point of difference in the shorter formats. They are good examples of players who have had an opportunity at the International level and have continued working on their game from what they learnt from those experiences.” Gailey noted.
