The former captain of the Pakistan men’s side, Babar Azam, has shared a heartfelt message for their women’s side ahead of their opening encounter of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The contest will be against their arch-rivals, India, as the pressure will be at its peak for the fixture.
In the history of the game, Pakistan have beaten the blue brigade only twice in the Women’s T20 World Cup, which came in 2012 and 2016. They will be under the leadership of Fatima Sana for this encounter, having prepared well during the recent tri-series against Ireland and West Indies.
Babar's message: “Make us proud” — Pakistan captain's emotional send-off for the Women's side
Since his debut more than a decade ago in international cricket, Babar has been part of several ODI and T20I games against the arch-rivals, India, through the ODI and T20 World Cups, the Champions Trophy, and the Asia Cup. He knows how it feels to take the field against the neighbours.
“Wishing good luck to our national women’s team for #T20WorldCup. Pakistan ka parcham apke haath me aur qoum ki duayen apke sath hain. Make us proud. Pakistan, it’s time to #backourgirls.” Babar wrote on his Instagram story.
The right-handed batter is the leading run-getter in men’s T20Is with 4596 runs in 136 innings at an average of 38.94 and a strike rate of 128.02, thanks to 39 half-centuries and three centuries at the best score of 122 runs.
