The Snicko controversy has continued to spark controversy in the game of cricket as Dhruv Jurel’s dismissal during the opening Test of the two-match series between India and Sri Lanka at the Galle Cricket Club went viral around the social media platforms. Many reckoned that the ball didn’t touch the bat despite there was a spike.
India have found themselves at a strong position in the Test match, having earned a massive lead of 178 runs as they bundled out the home side for just 284 runs on the board. They showed incredible dominance in the batting department during the first innings with 462 runs.

It was the third delivery of the 31st over of the second innings of India’s batting when the home side appealed as they felt that Jurel had gloved the leg sided delivery. They were confident and reviewed immediately as the umpire Sharfuddula Saikat shook his head in denying.

It was banged in short and sliding down the leg side when Jurel shaped himself to pull the ball. There was a small deflection. However, it didn’t look to be coming off the thigh-pad. The entire focus moved to the UltraEdge.
There was a small spike when the ball was next to the bat. And the third umpire decided to show the red signal. But the controversy was that despite the spike, the visuals showed a clear gap between the bat and the ball when it was crossing each other.
India's position: Hosts lead by 338 runs after Jurel's contentious dismissal
The tourists, under the leadership of Shubman Gill, posted 462 runs in the first innings, having opted to bat first as their number three, Devdutt Padikkal, smashed a fine knock of 167 runs, thanks to 15 boundaries and one six while KL Rahul nailed 82 runs, thanks to 10 boundaries and one six. Jurel also got a fine half-century.
Sri Lanka found themselves in a spot of bother early with the bat before Sonal Dinusha celebrated his maiden century in the longest format as they were rolled out for 284 runs. Manav Suthar and Ravindra Jadeja combined to pick seven wickets between them.
India, meanwhile, batted second aggressively and shouldered the lead over the 350-run mark as Rishabh Pant smashed a sensational knock of 66 runs off 89 ball with eight fours and a couple of sixes.
