In a clip, Arshdeep Singh joked and asked Tilak, ‘Oye Andhere, sunscreen lagaaya? (Hey, dark one, did you apply sunscreen?). The video shows him turning the camera to Tilak’s teammates, Naman Dhir, as the video was posted by the bowler on his Snapchat account.

The remark, which came before the start of the game between the two sides, went viral as the Punjab bowler found himself at the centre of controversy with sections of fans and observers terming the comments as ‘casual racism.’

A few hours later, Tilak Varma played a sensational unbeaten knock of 75 runs off just 33 balls at a strike rate of 227.27, thanks to six boundaries and as many sixes. Meanwhile, the pacer was smashed for 29 runs in his four overs without any wickets.
Mumbai Indians was able to successfully chase down the target of 205 runs against the Kings with a ball to spare, with six wickets in hand. Punjab was clinical with the ball but leaked so many runs towards the end of the innings under pressure.

After the end of the clash, MI responded to the India pacer’s ‘andhera’ comment with a pointed social media post. The franchise shared a clip featuring Tilak with the popular Bollywood track using the line ‘Andhera tera maine le liya’ as it showed the batter coming out of darkness in the visuals, holding several awards, including the ‘Player of the Match’ trophy.

Varma has smashed 336 runs in 12 innings of this IPL 2026 at a fine strike rate of more than 160 with the help of two half-centuries and one century at the best score of 101*. On the other hand, Arshdeep has struggled for 13 wickets at an economy rate of 9.69.
