Fresh from their victory in the second Test of the two-match series against West Indies in Trinidad, Pakistan started their three-day warm-up clash against the professional county club XI at the Kent County Cricket Ground in Beckenham, where the players were not happy with the umpiring decisions. 

It was a strong county side of England, consisting of James Rew, Caleb Falconer, Shoaib Bashir, Matthew Fisher, Josh Hull, and others. Pakistan, on the other hand, will hope to improve in English conditions before the three-match series. 

Several contentious umpiring calls left players visibly frustrated during the three-day practice match

A video has gone viral where Mohammad Abbas was seen to bowl a delivery to the left-handed opening batter, Emilio Gay, who was squared up in trying to defend the ball. The outside edge went straight into the hands of the slip fielder. The southpaw wasn’t happy with the decision as he reckoned that the ball perhaps came off the body.

The second wicket was Tom Haines for 51 runs. The captain of the side was given out leg before the stumps. He felt that the ball was perhaps pitched up outside the leg stump from Mohammad Ali, with the batter not being happy with the decision.

Falconer was another right-handed batter who was shocked when the umpire raised his finger at his outside edge into the hands of the wicket-keeper. Tear, meanwhile, felt that the ball came off his body when the wicket-keeper, behind the stumps, grabbed the ball and sent back the batter.

How the opening day unfolded amid the umpiring drama

The PCCSXI side was bundled out for 305 runs in the first innings with the captain Haines smashing a fine knock of 51 runs off 35 balls at a strike rate of 145.71, thanks to 12 boundaries. Falconer also smashed a fine 59 runs off 89 balls, along with 65 runs from Zaib, shouldering on 12 boundaries.

Both Ali and Abbas picked up three wickets each in the innings, while Khurram Shahzad ended up with figures of 2/55 in 10.5 overs. In reply, Pakistan ended the game on 44 runs without any damage and trailed by 261 runs.

The tourists will hope to get some good practice with the bat against the home bowling and get better at countering the conditions.
