'Ponting should give belt treatment'-Fans react as Shashank Singh drops 5th catch of IPL 2026 in SRH vs PBKS clash
Fans slam Shashank Singh after his fifth dropped catch in IPL 2026 SRH vs PBKS clash, calling for action as fielding errors continue to hurt PBKS.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) produced a commanding batting performance to post a massive 235/4 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Match 49 of IPL 2026 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Their top order fired collectively, capitalising on wayward bowling and below-par fielding from PBKS. The visitors now face a steep challenge, needing 236 runs in 20 overs—despite having two of the highest successful chases in IPL history—to stay at the top of the points table.
The match also drew attention for an unfortunate fielding display from Shashank Singh, who dropped his fifth catch of the season. The missed opportunity came at a crucial moment and allowed SRH to build further momentum, ultimately contributing to their imposing total. His repeated lapses in the field have increasingly become a concern for PBKS during this campaign.

Costly drop adds to Shashank Singh’s growing fielding concerns in IPL 2026
Shashank Singh’s struggles in the field continued during the IPL 2026 clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings in Hyderabad on Wednesday. Fielding in the deep, Singh dropped a straightforward catch off Yuzvendra Chahal’s bowling, much to the leg-spinner’s frustration. The error marked his fifth dropped catch of the season, further highlighting his difficult run on the field.
It was a moment Singh would want to forget in a hurry. Stationed at deep backward square leg, he appeared well-settled under a miscued sweep from Heinrich Klaasen. However, as he attempted to complete the catch, the ball dipped late and slipped through his hands before racing away to the boundary, turning a routine opportunity into a costly four.
The missed chance left Chahal visibly stunned, as he dropped to his haunches in disbelief. Singh, meanwhile, stood motionless with a dejected expression, fully aware of the impact of the lapse. With such repeated fielding errors becoming a concern, the Punjab Kings will be keen to address these issues in the crucial stages of the tournament.
SRH capitalize on PBKS fielding lapses to post massive 235/4
Punjab Kings (PBKS)won the toss and chose to field first, but Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) came out with an aggressive approach. Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head gave SRH a flying start, taking the team past the 50-run mark in just 3.2 overs. However, Lockie Ferguson provided an immediate breakthrough by dismissing Abhishek for 35 off 13 balls on the very next delivery.
Despite the early wicket, Head continued his attacking strokeplay and ensured SRH dominated the powerplay, reaching 79/1 in six overs. Yuzvendra Chahal struck soon after to remove Head for 38 off 19 balls. PBKS had further chances to pull things back, but poor fielding cost them dearly. Ishan Kishan was dropped twice—first by Cooper Connolly and then again later—while Heinrich Klaasen was also given a lifeline by Shashank Singh. A missed stumping by Prabhsimran Singh further added to PBKS’s woes as SRH crossed the 100-run mark inside nine overs.
Making full use of these opportunities, Kishan and Klaasen built a strong partnership to take the game away from PBKS. Kishan reached his half-century in style with three consecutive sixes before Arshdeep Singh dismissed him for 55 off 32 balls, ending an 88-run stand. Klaasen, however, continued his fine form and brought up his fifty in just 32 balls. In the final overs, Klaasen (69 off 43) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (29* off 12) added a quick 63-run partnership, helping SRH post a massive total of 235/4 in their 20 overs.
