Road to the FIFA WC 2026 final: How Spain and Argentina got here

Defending champions Argentina booked their place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final with a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over England in the semifinal. England took the lead in the first half, but Enzo Fernandez equalised after the break before Lautaro Martinez scored the winner in stoppage time. The victory ended England's hopes of reaching their first World Cup final since 1966 and sent Argentina into another title clash.

Spain reached the FIFA World Cup final for the first time since winning the tournament in 2010 after beating France 2-0 in the semifinal. Lamine Yamal played a crucial role by winning a penalty after dispossessing Lucas Digne. Mikel Oyarzabal calmly converted the spot-kick in the 22nd minute to put Spain ahead, and the European champions controlled the match to secure their place in the final.
