Can Sunrisers Hyderabad finish in the top 2 of IPL 2026? All qualification scenarios explained
The question arrives whether the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) could finish among the top two of the IPL 2026 as all the qualification scenarios have been explained.

After the 89-run victory of the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the Shubman Gill-led side has qualified for the first qualifier. Now, the question stands if the Sunrisers Hyderabad could get among the top two places in the edition.
Currently, the Hyderabad franchise is at the third rank in the points table with eight victories in 13 clashes at a net run rate of +0.350. They will face the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their last league stage game on May 22 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
What exact equation does SRH need to steal a Qualifier 1 spot in IPL 2026
RCB are enjoying their stay at the top of the table with nine victories in 13 games at a net run rate of +1.065. They are likely to cross the huddle and face the Titans in the first qualifier. But Hyderabad won’t make it easy.
There are two possible chances of the Pat Cummins-led side to qualify for the playoffs among the top two. This is always an important position to be in the league, as history suggests, with the teams getting an extra chance if they drop the game at a crucial point.
If Hyderabad bats first and posts a massive score of 220 runs, then they will have to restrict the Bengaluru side to 132 runs or less than that. If they score 200 runs, then they will need to win by a margin of 87 runs, which won’t be easy in any case.
But if they are chasing, then it will be tougher. In a second innings chase of 150 runs, the home side will need to get runs in around 11.1 to 11.3 overs. These are the two ways of them playing the qualifier 1 and dropping RCB to number three.
If SRH make the top 2 — Which teams are the most likely to face in Qualifier 1?
If Hyderabad makes the top two, they will be up against the Titans in the first qualifier on May 26 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. Unless RCB plays the game against GT.
The eliminator will take place on May 27 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, which will also host the second qualifier of the event two days later.
The final of the IPL 2026 will occur on May 31 at the iconic Indian venue, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
