The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister (CM), C. Joseph Vijay, has announced a massive prize for Washington Sundar, the spin all-rounder of the Indian side, for his contribution to winning the Asian Games 2026 Gold Medal against Pakistan, as the final took place at the Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin.
Sundar was excellent with the ball for India in the game as he picked up two vital wickets in his four-over spell at an economy rate of 7.20. He has recently been withdrawn from the Blue Brigade’s T20I squad against West Indies, having been asked to feature in the first-class cricket for the state side.
INR 75 Lakh cash incentive for Washington Sundar from the Tamil Nadu government
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay has declared a cash reward for Washington, who will receive INR 75 lakh. This is for his role in the country’s gold medal win at the Asian Games. He was part of the side that won Gold in the cricket event at the 20th Asian Games in Japan.
Vijay said that the state government will give Sundar an INR 75 lakh incentive. He called it a grand prize for the achievement and reckoned that the spinner’s success will inspire the young people. He wished him well for the future and hopes to see the player grow more in the game,
His first wicket of the game was Abdul Samad, who sat back and tried to loft the short ball down the ground. However, the bounce didn’t allow him to middle it, and it found the fielder at the end. He also sent back the opponent’s captain, Sahibzada Farhan, for 10 runs.

Batting first, India posted a massive score of 211/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Abhishek Sharma gave them a beast start with a dashing knock of 61 runs off 28 balls with three boundaries and seven sixes at a strike rate of 217.86, while Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on 51 runs off 22 balls with three fours and four sixes.
Pakistan fell short of the target by 19 runs. Most of their batters failed to capitalize on their starts apart from Hasan Nawaz, who drilled 96 runs off 51 balls. All of Sundar, Axar Patel, and Shivam Dube picked up two wickets each in the bowling.
