The chase of 211 runs was expected to be a massive challenge for the Pakistan side during the opening Test of the two-match series against West Indies at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba in Trinidad, as the surface was asking a few tough questions to the batters with a few balls flying to the shoulder while a few were keeping low. 

With the West Indies getting bundled out for 181 runs in the third innings of the encounter, the onus was on the Pakistan batters to do well against the home bowlers, who made a strong start with the ball.

Justin Greaves strikes again as Mohammad Rizwan falls for 11

Justin Greaves, who picked up a superb five-wicket haul during the first innings of their bowling, came into the attack on the 16th over of the defence on the fourth day’s play. After a no-ball to start his bowling, he picked up a vital wicket on the first legal delivery of the spell.

The pacer hit the in-between length and got the delivery to tail in sharply with a hint of extra bounce. He beat Mohammad Rizwan on the forward prod and hit the top of off stump with terrific accuracy.

Rizwan played for the angle but didn’t expect the ball to straighten at the last moment as the wicket-keeper batter was dismissed for 11 runs off 28 balls with the help of two boundaries.

WI vs PAK 1st Test: Pakistan collapse deep in trouble chasing 211 for victory

In the first innings of the Test, West Indies put up 311 runs, thanks to the two half-centuries from Kavem Hodge and Shai Hope. In reply, the visitors found themselves in a strong position before a batting collapse saw them lose their last seven wickets for just 38 runs as Greaves finished with 5/27 in 11 overs.

The home side, based on the small lead of 28 runs, added 181 runs in their second innings of the batting, thanks to the contribution from the lower order. Mohammad Abbas finished with 5/22 in 15.5 overs at an economy rate of 1.40.

Pakistan, during the chase, were reduced to 88 runs for the loss of nine wickets as their captain, Babar Azam, stood tall for his unbeaten 50. Jayden Seales picked up 4/18 in 11 overs.
