WPL 2027 set to begin on January 14 — Here's the full schedule and auction date

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 will be held from January 14, while the auction will take place on October 28 at the Grand Hyatt Kochi. The development was communicated to all five sides before the BCCI issued the media release confirming the dates. 

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are the champions from the previous season of the competition, when they beat the Delhi Capitals (DCW) in the final during the chase of 204 runs by six wickets, thanks to the partnership between captain Smriti Mandhana and Georgia Voll.

WPL 2027 season dates confirmed — Tournament kicks off January 14

The BCCI also confirmed the dates of the 2027 edition of the event, which will be held from January 14 to February 07. The five teams will have the retention deadline of September 28 to decide on their players, whom to hold and whom to release.

Each squad can have up to 18 players, of whom a maximum of six players can be overseas, as the salary cap for the current cycle is INR 15 crore. The BCCI hasn’t revealed the venues for the WPL 2027, but reports have claimed that they have considered Mumbai and Vadodara for the games.

There have been suggestions of holding a few games in the newly built stadium in Varanasi, but that remains a small possibility at this stage of the operation. That will depend on the preparation of the venue, which can host the league only after it has been tested through the domestic games.

The WPL 2027 auction will be incredibly important for the sides, who will be trying to fill the gaps from the previous edition of the event, where they lacked skill and quality in their players. The auction will be taking place in Kochi.

September 28 is the retention deadline, which means all the teams will have to submit their released and retained players to the BCCI before making the final decisions on their auction strategies.

In the last season, most of the sides struggled to find their firepower in the lower order, which they will hope to improve in the upcoming edition after the mini-auction for this edition.
