With just 396 runs in 17 innings of the Playoffs stage in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at an average of 26.4, Virat Kohli has his work cut out for the knockout stage of the competition. Someone who always takes pride in delivering under pressure, Kohli has been at his best in this aspect. 

However, the veteran will get a great opportunity to turn the tables when he takes the field for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) during the first qualifier of the IPL 2026 against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Cricket Stadium in Dharamsala.

Virat Kohli’s IPL Playoff stats: The numbers behind the big-match pressure

The former Indian captain has featured in 17 innings of the IPL Playoffs. He has collected 396 runs at an average of around 26 and a strike rate of 121.10, thanks to two half-centuries at the best score of 70 runs.

When the Bengaluru side reached the Playoffs in 2011, Kohli smacked 113 runs in three innings at an average of 56.50 and a strike rate of 128.40 with one half-century at the best score of 70. Out of those, he got 70* in the first qualifier, before adding eight runs in the second qualifier. In the final, he got 35 runs in 32 balls against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). 

Last year, when they won their maiden title of the event, the Delhi-born drilled 55 runs in the Playoffs at a strike rate of 117. Out of these 55 runs, he got 43 runs in the final, while 12 runs came off his bat in the first qualifier. 

Overall, Kohli has a dot ball percentage of 33.6 in this Playoffs history of his IPL career, having nailed 30 boundaries and 11 over boundaries. 

Kohli’s IPL 2026 league form — 557 Runs, 105*, SR 164 — Can he carry it into Qualifier 1?

Kohli is currently the ninth leading run-getter of the IPL 2026. He has, however, scored the most runs for the franchise in that edition of the competition with 557 runs in 14 innings at an average of more than 50 and a decent strike rate of 163.82, scoring four half-centuries and one century.

For Bengaluru to win Qualifier 1 against the Shubman Gill-led side, Kohli will have a huge role to play at the opening position, especially inside the powerplay.

Kohli vs Rabada in Dharamsala: The defining battle of RCB vs GT Qualifier 1

Kohli, in the last meeting against GT, smacked Rabada for five boundaries in an over before the Protea pacer took the sweet revenge with the wicket of the star batter. In this IPL 2026, the former RCB captain has smashed the pacer for 43 runs in just 19 balls at a strike rate of 226.3.

Overall, the battle is in favor of Rabada, who has got the better of the India star four times in IPL history at an average of 19.80, leaking 79 runs in 51 balls. Kohli, in Dharamsala, has a superb record with 161 runs in three IPL innings at a strike rate of 169.50, having bagged two fifties. 

The battle between him and Rabada could decide the fate of the qualifier 1 and which team would travel to the Narendra Modi Stadium for the final on May 31.
