This is one of the rare cases of the IPL in recent seasons where three teams are nearly confirmed to qualify for the playoffs of the competition. And nearly three weeks are left before the action heads into the playoffs.
Rajasthan Royals found guilty of breaching protocols twice in IPL 2026
At the early stage of the event, during the clash against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Guwahati, the Rajasthan Royals were in the spotlight when their team manager, Ravinder Singh Bhinder, was seen using his phone around the dugout.
Later, during the encounter against the Punjab Kings in Mullanpur, the RR captain, Riyan Parag, was caught red-handed on camera while vaping in the dressing room during the match. Bhinder was fined INR 1 lakh, whereas Parag was docked 25% of the match fees and handed a demerit point.
On the sidelines of India’s squad announcement for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in Mumbai, the BCCI secretary, Devajit Saikia, has addressed the issue.

“We are exploring some other options about how to bring the teams that are violating the norms. We will be taking some action. We are looking at the various terms and conditions and protocols of IPL [around] how the teams behave.” Saikia expressed in the interaction.
“It is not just players or officials. As a team, they have to maintain some decorum so that the image of the IPL is never adversely affected. To ensure that we have to take a call, and we will be taking some action.” He highlighted.
BCCI waits for Punjab Police’s communication on Parag’s incident
Bhinder told the BCCI anti-corruption that the breach was not ideal and had issued an apology before he was fined. Saikia, on the other hand, didn’t explain what the board was looking to sanction RR for, after having imposed fines for both incidents.

He was also asked if there would be any legal actions for the incident involving Parag, as the use of e-cigarettes is banned in India. But he addressed that the board had not received any communication from the Punjab Police yet, since the incident took place in New Chandigarh.
RR’s head coach, Kumar Sangakkara, reckoned that both issues had been addressed by the board. But he reflected on how they will always try to have a very positive culture in the team.
