Twitter reactions: Mohammad Rizwan dismissed for 1 in Pakistan's second innings vs England at Lord's

After the dismissal of Shan Masood to end the 97-run third-wicket partnership in the second innings of the second Test between Pakistan and England at Lord’s, the fans expected their veteran batter, Mohammad Rizwan, to shoulder responsibility under pressure, especially in the absence of the injured. But Rizwan continued his poor form with the bat during the series. It wasn’t a glorious delivery from the bowler, but the right-hander made it look so, as his nightmarish shot selection brought his dismissal for the fourth time in the series.

It was the fifth delivery of the 33rd over of the innings when Ollie Robinson sent back Rizwan. It was a length delivery as the batter got across and slogged it through the line. He was nowhere near the ball to make a connection as the umpire was very quick to give the verdict of out.

The Pakistan wicket-keeper reviewed straightaway only to see the ball tracker showing that the wicket was on umpires’ call, which meant that Rizwan had to make a long walk back to the dressing room for his one run off nine deliveries. It was his second failure in the game after he made seven runs in the first innings.

Dan Lawrence’s fine knock of 54 runs off 70 deliveries saw the home side get bundled out for 207 runs in the second innings, setting a target of 389 runs for the tourists, who lost their top order for just 14 runs on the board.

Their captain, Babar Azam, was bowled out for six runs while Abdullah Shaqiue was dismissed for a three-ball duck. Shan Masood tried hard for his 26 runs, while Saud Shakeel showed determination for his fine half-century, which was full of balanced aggression and patience.

Robinson, meanwhile, continued his superb spell of bowling the summer and returned with figures of 4/24 in 14 overs, including five maidens at an economy rate of 1.70. They hoped to get a 2-0 unassailable lead, heading into the third Test at Edgbaston.

Brief Scores: England 290 (Jamie Smith 61, Mohammad Abbas 4/73) & 208 (Dan Lawrence 54, Mohammad Abbas 5/57) beat Pakistan 110 (Azan Awais 46, Ollie Robinson 4/11) & 194 (Saud Shakeel 97, Ollie Robinson 4/24) by 194 runs.
