Despite shouldering the Delhi Capitals in 2020 during the Indian Premier League (IPL) final, Shreyas Iyer was left out of the franchise before he won the title with the Kolkata Knight Riders against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2024. The very next year, he became the runner-up with the Punjab Kings in 2025.

Even in the ongoing edition, Shreyas Iyer has put his side at the top of the points table as the Punjab side is the only unbeaten franchise at the halfway mark of the competition. With the bat, he has continued to contribute in the middle order.

Shreyas Iyer opens up on mental approach before crucial match

During a recent interaction on Star Sports, Iyer has reflected on the importance of letting go. He opened up on how it would always be important to set a goal, but to move on if one fails to achieve it by accepting the mistakes.

“The power of letting go is very important, I feel. You know that you have set a goal for yourself. You want to achieve that, but at the back of your mind, you have to tell yourself that even if that doesn’t happen, that’s fine. I will accept it and move on.” Iyer expressed on Star Sports.

“When you become mature as a player, it’s from learning things outside the field. When you face rejections, when you lose a few of the games, and in my childhood, whatever selection and games I have gone through, there have been adversities, ups and downs like everyone.” The veteran shed light.

The Mumbai-born also talked about trying to lift himself in tough times when most people look to push it down, ahead of the fixture against the Axar Patel-led side.

“So, I always believe that self-determination is very important. People will always try to push you down, but the way you lift yourself is the most important thing in your life.” He added.
