Watch: Jordan Cox's catch — Fair or foul? The controversy that rocked the RCB vs GT IPL 2026 Final

The catch of Jordan Cox was given not out by the third umpire as it sparked controversy during the IPL 2026 final between RCB and GT, recalling the earlier given out catch from Jason Holder.

When Jordan Cox dived forward to grab the catch of Washington Sundar during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 final between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, it looked fair at first look before the third umpires interfered.

After a couple of replays, the third umpire called it not out. And the decision from the TV umpire sparked controversy as the Royal Challengers Bengaluru fans soon recalled the Jason Holder catch in the league stage, which was given out to send back Rajat Patidar.

Double standards? Cox's catch denied — But Jason Holder's similar grab was fine in the league stage

It was the final delivery of the tenth over from Jacon Duffy. The New Zealand pacer hurried Washington Sundar with a short ball. The left-handed batter tried to take the pacer on. But he mistimed his pull shot and was taken at the fine leg region.

The Bengaluru side and their fans started celebrating as Cox was happy with the catch. But the third umpire had a different look. On the very first replay, he called it not-out as the pictures showed that the fielder didn’t have good control over the catch as the ball got stuck between his ring fingers on both hands.

But it stayed out enough to touch the grass as he tried to complete the catch. There was a bit of doubt real time and the replays vindicated.

Third umpire called — Was Jordan Cox's catch clean or did it touch the ground in the IPL 2026 Final?

Many fans called the decision double standard as they looked back at the catch from Jason Holder earlier in the league stage of the game. When the GT fielder took the catch, the ball was also smelling the grass while being in his hand.

But that time the umpire didn’t call it out. However, during the final, when it mattered the most, they took the decision against the Bengaluru side and their fans.

Despite this, RCB was at a strong position as they put the home side on the floor with 115/6 in 16.1 overs. None of the Gujarat batters were able to crack the code and put pressure on the Bengaluru bowlers.
