During the first innings of the third Test at Edgbaston between England and Pakistan, Josh Tongue bowled a deadly yorker to dismiss Mohammad Randhawa for one run as the ball broke the stumps. The moment was viral across social media platforms as Pakistan continued to crumble with the bat.  

England’s captain Joe Root won the toss and decided to bowl first on a surface which was flat for batting. They went with an unchanged XI while the visitors made four changes, including the arrival of debutant Ghazi Ghori.

On the fourth delivery of the 21st over, Josh Tongue went for the pinpoint yorker, which was fast and accurate to Randhawa, who was beaten for pace as the ball snaked under his bat and crashed into the base of the off-stump to send back the batter for just five runs. That was his third wicket of the innings.

Tongue also trapped Ghori before the stumps for four runs. The ball was pitched up as Ghori was also beaten for pace and rooted in the crease. The ball went past the inside edge and hit the back pad. The ball tracking shows it hitting the stumps.

He also dismissed Babar Azam for seven runs in the innings. It was a good-length delivery as the right-handed batter failed to judge the length and saw it break the stumps.

Pakistan's batting woes continue as Josh Tongue rips through the lineup

Pakistan ended the first session with 100 runs on the board for the loss of seven wickets in 23 overs as their two openers failed badly. Ayub, on return, was dismissed for a 10-ball duck while Azan Awais was dismissed for nine runs.

None of their batters, apart from Saud Shakeel, among the top seven batters, could make it into the double figures. He remained unbeaten on 37 runs off 38 balls with six boundaries heading into the break, while Tongue had figures of 3/23 in five overs. Both Jofra Archer and Ollie Robinson grabbed two wickets each.
