Pakistan continued their poor batting performance in the third Test of the three-match series against England at Edgbaston as they were bundled out for just 133 runs in the first innings after being put in to bat first by the home captain, Joe Root, who made a brave decision by opting to bat on a flat surface.

None of the top five batters could convert their scores into double figures for Pakistan, which was the first-ever in England during an innings of a Test match. Their highest individual score of the line-up came from Saud Shakeel, who made 43 runs off 47 balls with seven boundaries.

Pakistan had no idea how they would tackle the pace of the England bowlers, particularly Josh Tongue, who returned with figures of 4/42 in 10 overs. He got the big fish, Babar Azam, as the right-handed batter failed to read the good-length delivery and was bowled out for seven runs.

Saud Shakeel got a nut from the same pacer as he was trapped leg before the stumps. Mohammad Randhawa was dismissed for five runs, thanks to the deadly yorker from Tongue as it broke the top of the stumps.

Mohammad Abbas provided them with a few runs with four boundaries towards the end of the innings. It was the fifth successive time in the series when the tourists failed to cross the 200-run mark in an innings of the Test match, post Headingley and Lord’s.

England's bowlers dominate as Pakistan's batting falls apart again

The home bowlers were on their mark from the start of the innings as Pakistan’s batting fell like a pack of cards. Both Ollie Robinson and Jofra Archer returned with figures of three wickets each. The former continued his superb form in the summer.

England ended the day’s play with a lead of 23 runs. Their opener, Emilio Gay, was dismissed for 60 runs with the help of nine boundaries, while Harry Brook remained unbeaten on 52 runs off 76 balls at a strike rate of 68.42 and has been looking to convert it into a century.
