India Women T20 World Cup Record — All Editions Stats
India have featured in all the nine editions of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup, starting in 2009. They finished as the runners-up only once in 2020. Apart from that, they qualified to the semifinals four times in 2009, 2010, 2018, and 2023

Over the years, India have remained one of the most developing sides in the history of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, despite not winning the trophy even once in nine editions. However, they have challenged the opponents on most occasions and could eye to end the drought, heading into the 2026 edition in England and Wales.
Under Harmanpreet Kaur, India fulfilled their dream of winning the Women’s ODI World Cup in 2025 at home when they beat South Africa in the final, having gone past the strong Australian side in the semifinal, which, at one point, looked unexpected to happen.
The blue brigade’s best campaign of the Women’s T20 World Cup came in 2020 when they ended up as the runners-up of the event, after losing the final to Australia before the massive crowd at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Apart from that, they also reached the semifinal of the competition four times in 2009, 2010, 2018, and 2023. They have earned success in the shortest format after the introduction of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), with their youngsters gaining experience and exposure by rubbing shoulders with the veteran players of the national side and other countries.
Meanwhile, India have earned 22 victories in 40 clashes of the Women’s T20 World Cup history at a win-loss ratio of 1.22, which is even better than South Africa’s 0.857 for their 18 wins in 39 clashes of the competition.
India’s performance in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Editions (2009-2024)
Here is a reflection of how Inda have performance in every single edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup over the years-
#1 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2009 in England

India began their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup campaign with a massive defeat by 10 wickets against England at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton under the leadership of Jhulan Goswami. They blew away the arch-rivals, Pakistan, at the same venue with a five-wicket victory in a 76-run chase after Priyanka Roy ended with figures of 5/16 in 3.5 overs.
The blue brigade continued their dominance with another vital victory over Sri Lanka in their next game to qualify for the semifinals. However, at Trent Bridge, they failed to put up an impressive show with the bat against New Zealand and got knocked out of the competition with a 52-run defeat.

#3 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2012 in Sri Lanka

Before the beginning of the season, the board handed over the captaincy to Mithali Raj for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2012 in Sri Lanka, despite Anjum Chopra beginning the year as the leader of the side. It was another nightmarish start of the edition for them at Galle as they were handed an eight-wicket defeat against the defending champions, Australia. And things didn’t go their way either since then.
After facing a nine-wicket defeat against England, they couldn’t hold their nerve in the 99-run chase against Pakistan and lost the encounter by one run. The only contest they won in the competition came against the hosts, Sri Lanka, as they chased down 102 runs in 14.4 overs.

#4 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2014 in Bangladesh
Heading into the Women’s s World T20 2014, the pressure was incredible on the Indian leader, especially after a dismal event two years ago. And their batting issue continued as Sri Lanka started their event with a 22-run win in Sylhet against India, who also lost their second encounter against the 2009 champions.
Against the hosts, who were playing their first edition of the tournament, the blue brigade earned a huge 79-run win after Harmanpreet Kaur smashed a fine knock of 77 runs. They also got the better of West Indies in the nine-wicket victory before blowing away the neighbours, Pakistan, in the 106-run defense.

There was no change in captaincy, but Mithali was inside the bubble of massive pressure. Moreover, the tournament was in India. #6 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2018 in West Indies

As expected, the selection committee appointed Harmanpreet as the new captain for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2018. And the captain led from the front in the very first game to celebrate a 51-ball 103-run knock against New Zealand to claim the 34-run win at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. That was the first ever hundred for them in WT20Is.
The campaign was boosted by another seven-wicket win for them against Pakistan before they crushed Ireland in their third encounter and qualified for the semifinal. They continued their unbeaten run with a massive 48-run win over the three-time champions, Australia.
But a flop batting performance against England in Antigua saw them being eliminated from the event. However, the event grew confidence and belief among the players.

With two successful seasons of the Women’s T20 World Cup, India was under pressure of expectation in 2024, especially with the introduction of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and its growth. But they didn’t start the ICC event on a high with a 58-run defeat against the Kiwis in Dubai, getting bundled out for just 102.
Even though they beat Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the group-stage clashes, they lost their vital game against the Alyssa Healy-led side in Sharjah, where they fell short of the 152-run target by nine runs.
