Shan Masood’s superb one-handed throw dismissed Harry Brook for 75 runs in the morning session of the second day’s play of the third Test between England and Pakistan, as the game took place at Edgbaston. Brook was later to make it into the crease as he again missed the chance to make it into the three-figure marks.  

Pakistan was asked to bat first on the flat Edgbaston surface by the England captain, Joe Root, who took the gamble as it worked out smoothly, with the visitors getting dismissed for 133 runs as none of the players were able to celebrate a half-century.

It was the first delivery of the 50th over of the innings. Saim Ayub came into the attack with the ball. It put a leg-side ball on the legs of Brook, who nudged it to the right of the mid-wicket region and set off. However, there was never a single on that delivery.

Dan Lawrence, from the other end, responded. There was no hesitation or stopping. But Brook was still caught miles short of the crease. Masood swooped down with a slide before collecting the ball cleanly and threw it on the bounce to Ayub, who took the bails off.

There was no need for the third umpire as Brook was not even in the frame. He put his bat up in the air in frustration as there was a century for the taking. He was dismissed for 75 runs off 97 balls thanks to six boundaries.

Pakistan were bundled out for 133 runs in the first innings as Saud Shakeel was the highest individual run-getter of the line-up with 43 runs off 47 balls, thanks to seven boundaries at a strike rate of 91.49. Josh Tongue returned with figures of 4/42 while both Jofra Archer and Ollie Robinson claimed three wickets each.

England ended the first session with 299 runs for the loss of six wickets as they took the lead by 166 runs. All of Emilio Gay, Brook, and Dan Lawrence got their respective fifties with the bat.
